ohh, Johnny... he is one of my favourite musicians ever, this is great, you've got his expression and his faraway look just right.
Not to mention his totally yummy tousled hair :P

Thanks, he's one of my all-time favourite musicians too :) I did another portrait of him, if you're interested. It's on my main page.

I am very annoyed at him currently, he only plays gigs near me on nights when I cannot possibly go! He is avoiding me!
Ooh, cool, I will definitely check it out :D

Ah, but try being Dutch! I've had to travel to the UK to see him. And he plays in Holland so very rarely that I HAVE to drop everything when he does (and travel 3 hours south) :P Still, I've seen him 4 times now. Once in Ireland, once in the UK and twice in Holland. :)

I know the feeling, I used to live in Belgium.

oof, lucky you, I WILL see him one day, because he is spectacular, the times you saw him was it him alone, or were The Sussex Wit playing too?

He definitely is spectacular! The first two times I saw Johnny with the Sussex Wit, the third time I saw him with the "new" Sussex Wit and the last time he played solo. Personally, I much prefer full-band shows, but he's great any way you can get him ;)

I can imagine, he's a bit of an artist and an actor too, so he's got a bit of stage-presence going on there.
He's also got so many instruments he can play, I'm still not entirely sure how many :P

On stage, I've seen him play (electric/acoustic) guitar, banjo, mandoline, violin and trumpet. But I know he plays all instruments on 'Drum' from the Sweet William EP, so he can do even more ;)

5 years? I'm pretty sure he didn't even have a website yet then. Still, I know what you mean. I became a fan almost exactly 3 years ago, right about the time the first EP was going to be released. I don't think anyone at all knew him back then. I was so excited when the first album came out and it was wonderful all the way!

Well, kudos to you :) They just announced another US tour. Still no Canada, I guess. :( No Netherlands either, of course. Btw, I've drawn J again if you're interested: :thumb200421232:

Found you excellent drawing looking for JF wallpaper (Google search).

As I am learning Dutch, I will look out for this guy's gigs on both sides of the water. I am guessing JF first came to notice (in the Netherlands) via "Kruistocht in Spijkerbroek"?

Yes, a lot of people here know JF from Crusade in Jeans. Only very few know he's a musician though! He supported Mumford&Sons last year, that did gain him quite some new fans. :)

I thought I had "discovered" him only to find one good friend has seen him gig and another (who has his own band "Isaac's Aircraft") is a big fan. He has also shared a line-up with "Skinny Lister" ... so there are more of us then it appears.

Maybe JF & The Sussex Wit are a well-kept secret.

So do I! Fortunately he seems to be gaining fans here (Netherlands). That's only since he supported Mumford&Sons last April though. Had to go the UK to see him before that!

Well you are NOT a lousy artist, that much is clear - but the photograph is not so bad, really.
I love this drawing! (Unfortunately I know nothing about drawing so I can not give you a more in-depth praise ;)

Cant wait for November 30th, I'll go to a JF solo show in Munich :)

Glad you like it! I'm going to the JF solo show in Amsterdam on the 24th ;) I haven't seen him solo yet, only with his band (3x). I'll be bringing a print of this drawing, actually. I stupidly forgot to bring it last time. I hope you'll enjoy the gig!

Haha so we are both having something to look forward :)
I have actually seen him only once with his band - as warm up for Mumford & Sons. Prior to this gig I had never heard of them but they rocked (or fiddled, whatever) my socks off!

Great to hear it. :) I saw him as support for Mumford & Sons too, earlier this year. I first saw him & band in early 2008 though, in Ireland. Anyway, have fun next week!

It was great! I prefer it when the Sussex Wit play along, but he can do a great show on his own too. :D One of the best moments was when he had the audience sing the end of Tickle Me Pink, as he couldn't do that bit on his own. :)
Have fun on the 30th, let me know how it was!

Oh my... I had fun but only rather briefly... :(
It was not meant to be! The concert started pretty late and this "Sweet Whats-his-name" that did the warm up wouldnt.stop.playing!
I went to Munich by train because of the state of the roads (snowed in) and the last train home left by midnight, so I was on a tight schedule.
When Johnny started it was 10:30 already, and three songs into his set he had guitar troubles, so he had to leave the stage for a few minutes *sigh*
Can you believe it? In the end I only heard 4 songs :(
But at least those songs were great :)

Ah, that sucks! Stupid snow :( In Amsterdam there wasn't a support band, but he could only play for one hour because another band had to start setting up to play later on the evening. Still, one an hour is quite a lot better than 4 songs of course! At least I'm glad those 4 songs were great :) Let's hope he comes back to Europe soon. *fingers crossed*

And Johnny Flynn is just amazing. Him, his songs, his band  :)
