Time is running out... by EldalinSkywalker Time is running out... by EldalinSkywalker
Another fimo world, measuring 20x20x17 cm. I haven't uploaded all of my worlds because it's so hard to convey a 3D work in 2D. Besides, no one actually looks at these works anyway (even though they're the works I am most proud of!).

This one is currently participating in an art contest. It has been selected for the regionals (only about 1 in 3 works were selected) so I am very pleased :)

- polymer clay (fimo), aluminium foil

Oh my goodness! How do you even begin to make something on this scale? How do you keep it from falling apart or squishing it when you work on something else? And how do you fit in the oven???

I don't know about where you live, but ovens here on average have dimensions of about 45x45x45 cm (17 inch). Since these worlds are usually about 20x20x30 cm, they fit quite comfortably :) As for the falling apart, almost all of these worlds have been built on a frame of tin foil and/or metal wire, so they're sturdy enough not to fall apart :)

this is fantastic! I would love to see more things like this!

I'm very curious as to how you got that lovely design on the buildings.

Thank you! I created the design patterns through a technique called 'millefiori'. It's pretty easy once you know how it works! :)

You said you don't upload these because you think people don't look at them but I just did and I think this is amazing! I'm no good with clay at all but this is just so imaginative, I love it! Please don't stop making worlds like this.

The series is called Gaiankind, and there's a few key places in it. The most significant one is New Avalon, a "man=made" island in Lake Michigan that is home to all sorts of magical beings (elves, werefolk, cryptozoological creatures, etc). There's a European-style town, a port, and farmland, and then there's a pyramid of sorts in the center. The pyramid is split into four corners with a square cut out in the middle. In the square is a circle, and surrounding the circle is a hedgmaze. The tops of the pyramid corners are cut off about 2/3rds of the way up. About 20 feet above them is a clear pyramid tip, and there are bridges from each corner holding it up -- inside that is a room. The northern corner of the bigger pyramid encloses a ginormous tree, and is the "home" of many, with "Brownietown" (anthropomorphic small animals, like rabbits and mice, are "brownies") under its roots. The eastern corner is the temple. The western corner is their university. The southern corner is their marketplace / entertainment division.

Wow, that sounds really complicated ;) But interesting! Is it a series of short stories? Novels? Something else? I'd love to see a drawing of the pyramid structure, as I can't quite picture it. I always find it amazingly difficult to describe unknown structures in such a way that other people can understand it. My novel is also taking place in a somewhat fantasy/sci-fi world, and I'm always struggling with it.
I'm glad to say I actually already have a half-idea for my next fimo world. I have to finish my current one first though. It's nearly done. :)

It's a franchise, with settings all around the globe. I'm developing a rolplay system, I've already written & published a novel (which I will soon be reworking), I've written three novellas & am working on a third, I have plans for a few dozen other stories, and at the moment I'm working on a comic. :)

I have sketches of the isle, maps and "blueprints", somewhere in my paperwork archives, but I suspect I need to update them in any case ...

And yeah, I know what you mean about trying to describe non-existent struturs XD

Let me know when your current and next fimo-worlds are done -- I'd love to see them! :)

Wow, it's a multi-media project then! Sounds awesome :) It must be great not to have to limit yourself to one medium!

I'm still just writing a novel.

I finished my latest fimo world yesterday, so here it is: [link]

Multimedia has its perks, but there is a downside: it's a lot of extra work if you're do all the aspects of it on your own. XD Sometims I think my muses are trying to kill me .... I do wish I was better with the 3-D stuff, though, like this. :)
